How to Use Skype on macOS Sequoia
Follow this guide to set up and use Skype for video calling on your Mac.
1. Download and Install Skype
Go to the Skype download page, click “Get Skype for Mac,” and download the installer. Locate the file in Downloads, double-click, and drag Skype to Applications.
2. Start Skype
From the Finder, open Applications, then double-click the Skype icon.
3. Log In or Register
Sign in with your Skype account or create a new account by selecting “Create new account.”
4. Confi gure Audio and Video
1. Before making a call, click your profile picture.
2. Select "Settings" from the menu.
3. Go to the "Audio & Video" section.
4. Check the camera preview in the "Camera" section to make sure it’s working correctly.
5. Set your microphone to the correct device.
6. Set your speakers to the correct device, and use "Test audio" to verify that your input and output audio are functioning properly.
5. Make or Join a Call
To start a meeting, open the “Calls” tab and click “Meet Now”, then select “Host Meeting”. Alternatively, you can hover the cursor over a contact in your contacts list, then click the video call button on the right. To join a meeting, use the link provided by the host or click “Meet Now,” then click “Join Meeting,” and enter the meeting ID.
6. Keep Skype Updated
On the menu bar at the top of the menu, click “Skype,” then “Check for Updates” to make sure your version of the app is current.
7. In-Call Toolbar
During calls, the toolbar at the bottom of the screen contains features like mute, video, share screen, chat.
● Record: Start or stop recording the meeting for later reference.
● Participants: View the participant list and manage settings like muting or removing participants (available to the host).
● TwinCam: Use a secondary camera for a split-screen view (if you have more than one camera connected).
● Microphone: Mute or unmute your microphone to control whether others can hear you. Use the up caret (1) to change your selected audio input or output device (2).
● Camera: Turn your video feed on or off to control whether others can see you. You can click the up caret (1) to change your selected video device (2).
● End Call: The red phone icon used to leave the meeting or end the call.
● Chat: Open the chat window to send messages to everyone or privately to specifi c participants.
● Share Screen: Share your entire screen or specifi c windows with other participants in the meeting.
● Raise Hand: Raise your virtual hand to indicate you want to speak or ask a question without interrupting the meeting.
● React: Use reactions (like thumbs up, clapping, etc.) to provide non-verbal feedback during the meeting.
● More: Access additional settings and options, such as adjusting video quality, background blur, and invitations.
8. Log Out or Exit
End the call with the red phone icon. To log out, click your profi le picture and select “Sign out.”
